Australia Test batter Nathan McSweeney signed a new contract to play for Northamptonshire in the 2027 season. The 27-year-old, who played three Test matches for Australia, scored three County Championship centuries in his first year with Northants and became the county's leading run-scorer that summer, accumulating 589 runs at an average of just under 50.
McSweeney, who also captained Northamptonshire in that summer's One-Day Cup, played an integral role in their T20 Blast campaign. He achieved an unbeaten 72 in a match against Gloucestershire on Wednesday, leading the Steelbacks to an eight-wicket victory as they topped the Central & West Group.
"I’m grateful for the faith the club has shown in me and I’m looking forward to continuing to contribute both on and off the field," he stated on the club's website. He expressed excitement about being part of Northamptonshire's future, hoping for many successful moments ahead.
