Palmer Eager to Share Pitch with Rogers at Chelsea

Chelsea footballer Cole Palmer expressed his excitement about reuniting with friend and former teammate Morgan Rogers during a press conference in Sydney on July 31, 2026. Palmer's remarks came after Rogers finalized his transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea, indicating a close friendship and a shared sporting background.

Palmer stated, "I can't wait to share the pitch with him." He revealed he played a part in persuading Rogers to join Chelsea, excitedly sharing how the two discussed the move frequently. "Everyone knows how good he is, and obviously he's one of my best friends, so I’m very happy about him coming here," Palmer said. The duo has a history together at Manchester City's academy and England's youth teams, which Palmer hopes will enhance their performance on the pitch.

Rogers reportedly confided in Palmer about his transfer prior to it becoming public knowledge, leading to a delicate secrecy between them until the announcement. Palmer quipped, "It was a difficult secret to keep before it was announced!"

The 24-year-old highlighted the potential of their partnership under new manager Xabi Alonso, noting their different playing styles could be complementary. "I think we can play well together, and we obviously did that when we were young anyway," Palmer explained.

The Chelsea midfielder also spoke positively about his experiences under Xabi Alonso's management. Palmer mentioned that Alonso reached out to him after he missed a spot on the England World Cup squad, explaining that their early discussions made him feel valued. Palmer said, "Working under him so far has been really good," adding that Alonso envisions him playing in a No. 10 role.

After enjoying a lengthy off-season, Palmer conveyed a sense of readiness for the new campaign. "I feel good now. I’ve had seven weeks to get myself ready for the season, and I’m good to go. I’m looking forward to the season," Palmer remarked, optimistic about Chelsea’s prospects.
