Omidiran Supports ABU's 2028 NUGA and Sports Excellence Drive

Ayo Omidiran, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), pledged support for Ahmadu Bello University’s (ABU) plans to host the 2028 Nigeria University Games (NUGA) and develop one of the country's National Centres of Excellence in Sports.

Omidiran made this commitment during a courtesy visit from the university’s management, led by Vice-Chancellor Adamu Ahmed, at the FCC headquarters in Abuja on August 7, 2026. As an alumna of ABU, she expressed gratitude to the institution for playing a critical role in her leadership journey and reiterated her commitment to initiatives that promote education, youth empowerment, and national development.

"I remain immensely proud to be an alumna of Ahmadu Bello University. The university shaped my character, broadened my perspective, and prepared me for the responsibilities of leadership and national service. I will always cherish the institution and remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote education, national development, and youth empowerment," she stated.

Omidiran welcomed ABU’s request for closer collaboration, recognizing the opportunity to host the 2028 NUGA Games and establish a national centre of excellence as significant to promoting youth development and reinforcing Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.

Additionally, she accepted an invitation to attend the university's 64th anniversary celebration set for October 4. Vice-Chancellor Ahmed praised Omidiran as one of ABU's distinguished alumni, highlighting her contributions to public service and sports administration. He noted her background as a two-term member of the House of Representatives, her role on FIFA’s Women’s Committee, and her position as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, alongside her founding of Omidiran Babes Football Club.

"These landmark developments present enormous opportunities for the university to contribute to sports development, talent discovery, and youth empowerment. We look forward to drawing upon your vast experience, guidance, and support as we prepare to deliver a memorable NUGA Games and build a Centre of Excellence that will become a national model for sports development," said Ahmed.

The delegation from ABU included several key figures, such as Registrar Rabiu Samaila, Director of Public Affairs Awwal Umar, and Director of Sports Omeiza, among others.
