NFF mourns the passing of Coach Christopher Alor

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expressed deep sadness at the news of the death of Coach Christopher Alor, a member of the technical crew for the Nigeria U20 women's national team, the Falconets, at the 2010 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Germany. Coach Alor passed away at the age of 75.

He was part of the crew that prepared the team strategically and technically for their matches, leading to draws against England and Mexico, and a defeat against Japan during the group stage. This preparation set the stage for the dramatic quarter-final match against the United States, which ended in a penalty-shootout loss, as well as a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the semi-finals. The Falconets reached the final, where they lost 0-2 to Germany, becoming the first Nigeria women's national team to secure a podium finish at a FIFA World Cup.

In a statement, the NFF deeply mourned the loss of Coach Christopher Alor, highlighting his contributions to Nigerian football, particularly his dedication to developing young players and his essential role with the national team. His involvement was key to Nigeria's historic achievement of securing silver medals at the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2010.

"We pray that God grants his soul eternal rest, and also grants those he has left behind, including his immediate family, friends, and the young players that he cherished working with, the fortitude to bear the loss," said Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, NFF’s Acting General Secretary, on Monday.
