Ollie Millroy discharged from hospital after China GT crash

Ollie Millroy has been discharged from hospital following a horrific crash that occurred during Race 1 of the China GT event in Shanghai. The British driver faced severe injuries, including fractures of six ribs, a collarbone, and a hand, along with a punctured lung. His Ferrari 296 caught fire as a result of the crash, but Millroy was heroically rescued by fellow racer Loek Hartog, who stopped his Porsche to assist amid delayed responses from safety marshals.

After being admitted to the hospital, Millroy underwent significant medical treatment, including surgery to secure various bones with plates and screws, and the insertion of a drainage tube for his lung. He spent two weeks in hospital recovering, during which he was able to communicate with the outside world through video links, sharing his experiences despite suffering from post-traumatic amnesia.

The past week had seen rapid progress in Millroy's recovery, assisted by the presence of his wife, Fern. The emotional visit from Hartog offered a morale boost, allowing the two to discuss their shared ordeal and thank the medical staff who aided Millroy.

On September 20, 2026, Millroy received clearance from his doctors to leave the hospital. He expressed gratitude towards the hospital staff at Shanghai United Family Hospital and acknowledged the long recovery journey ahead, stating his intent to tackle it at home with his family. “I will eventually make a full recovery from my injuries, but the last two weeks have changed my life forever,” he remarked, reflecting on the experience.

In a poignant message to fans and fellow racers, Millroy advised to cherish every moment and look out for one another, echoing the support he received during his recovery process. He also wished Fran Rueda luck as he would be filling in for Millroy in the Inception Racing Ferrari at the upcoming Petit Le Mans in October.
