Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and assistant coach Mzwandile Stick expressed their determination to perform strongly against the All Blacks in the Castle Double Malt Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series decider in Baltimore on Saturday. They anticipated a fierce contest and stated their motivation to win was rooted in pride for their supporters. This match also coincides with Rassie Erasmus’ 100th Test match in his roles since being appointed in 2018 as head coach and Director of Rugby.

“We definitely want to win the series,” Kolisi said. “We don’t want to draw it, and that has been our mindset this week.” The team has been preparing for the All Blacks’ changes and has conducted detailed analyses of the competition. “But the key thing for us will be to make sure we enforce our game on them, and pitch up physically on the day,” Kolisi added.

Kolisi acknowledged the intensity of facing the same opponent multiple times. “We’re growing and learning on the go because it is a tough series,” he said. “You have to find other ways and weaknesses. This week we’re playing almost a new All Blacks team compared to last week, and Richie Mo’unga brings a different dynamic, so it might be different from the other games.” He had built the match up to the pressure of four Rugby World Cup finals in succession, reinforcing the high stakes.

Stick, anticipating the All Blacks' strategy, acknowledged Mo’unga starting at flyhalf. “As coaches, we expected that selection. Richie is world class and we know him well,” he said, also pointing out the emergence of young stars like Ruben Love. “I think the All Blacks are going to be even more bold tomorrow when it comes to keeping the ball alive.” Stick emphasized the importance of enforcing their physical game against a competition so eager to level the series.
