FIBA Unveils Suhail, 2027 World Cup Mascot

The countdown for the 2027 Basketball World Cup has begun, and FIBA continues to unveil the elements of the competition's identity. The mascot, Suhail, has recently been revealed.

Suhail is inspired by the star Canopus, known as Suhail in the Gulf. Canopus served as a guiding point for navigators and others in deserts and seas of the Gulf region. FIBA's choice of this community symbol as the image for the 2027 Basketball World Cup highlights its ambition to celebrate the regional history in the Gulf.

The design of Suhail draws significantly from nature, featuring "crystalline facets and fragments of meteorites fused with metal." The 2027 Basketball World Cup will take place from August 27 to September 12, 2027, in Qatar. The qualifying rounds will continue and conclude early next year.
