Makhanya Transfer Value Soars
Newsroom

The transfer value of Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya climbed massively after his fine start for Rangers FC in the Scottish Premiership. Makhanya, 22, joined Rangers from Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union in a deal estimated to be worth €3.5 million.
According to the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), the initial transfer fee could very well turn out to be a massive bargain, with Makhanya's value already on the rise. The Bafana defender made 12 appearances for his new club and was named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month in September.
CIES’ 554th Weekly Post highlighted the top 10 players by league with the highest transfer value across 55 competitions outside Europe’s top five leagues. It stated that Makhanya is already valued at more than four times the amount Rangers paid for him. The Swiss-based organization rates him at €14.3 million, which equates to R264 million.
Despite this significant increase in his market value, there are rumors that some clubs in Europe’s top five leagues have taken notice of Makhanya's performances and could pursue him in January.
