Rays vs. Guardians ALCS Game 4 Preview

Newsroom

Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians, originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed to Saturday due to inclement weather. This delay revealed that Game 5 is now set for Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.

CLEVELAND -- The Guardians have taken a 2-1 series lead against the Rays after their 3-2 victory on Thursday, but their eagerness to continue was dampened by rain, resulting in the postponement of Game 4. The Guardians, perceived as underdogs entering the ALCS, have found momentum resembling their AL Division Series comeback against the Chicago White Sox. A win on Saturday could put them one step closer to reaching the World Series, with another potential victory needed in Game 5.

Game 4 is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday at Progressive Field, with broadcasts on TBS, truTV, and HBO Max. Spanish-language broadcasts will be available on UniMas and TUDN Radio.

The Rays, who won 98 games in the regular season, will use the extra time to regroup for this critical matchup. Right-hander Nick Martinez is set to start for the Rays. Meanwhile, the Guardians will open with Shawn Armstrong, who has impressed in previous postseason outings, though the team plans to utilize a bullpen game.

Cleveland looks at two days of favorable weather for baseball and is prepared to play at Tropicana Field if necessary. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt expressed the importance of remaining focused on winning games in this tight series, describing it as a "dogfight" between both teams who mirror each other in competitive spirit.

Gavin Williams shut down the Rays' lineup in Game 3, and the Guardians' bullpen, featuring Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith, will seek to continue their strong performance with extra rest.

If the Rays cannot secure a win in Game 4, they will find themselves in a precarious position in the series. The starting lineups for both teams have been set:

Guardians:
1. Steven Kwan, LF
2. José Ramírez, 3B
3. Chase DeLauter, RF
4. Jo Adell, DH
5. Nathaniel Lowe, 1B
6. Travis Bazzana, 2B
7. Patrick Bailey, C
8. Petey Halpin, CF
9. Brayan Rocchio, SS

Rays:
1. Yandy Díaz, DH
2. Jonathan Aranda, 1B
3. Chandler Simpson, LF

Both teams will exhibit a strategic battle of elite pitching, with defenses playing a significant role in the series outcomes.
