Rulani Mokwena Achieves Perfect Start with Pyramids FC

Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC continued its perfect start to the season after securing its sixth consecutive league win against Ceramica Cleopatra. Following Al Ahly SC’s victory over their biggest rivals Zamalek SC, Pyramids dropped to second place. Coming into this match, Mokwena’s side needed a win to reclaim the lead in the Egyptian Premier League.

Pyramids didn’t start well after Cleopatra took the lead in the fifth minute through Abdallah Magdy, who was previously with Pyramids. However, just nine minutes later, Egyptian international Mostafa Ziko scored the equaliser to bring the score to 1-1. Ziko, who had been praised by Mokwena after Egypt's loss to Bafana Bafana, has proven himself to be a key player for the club.

After 20 minutes, Algerian international striker Ahmed Nadhir Benbouali put Pyramids in the lead for the first time with a goal that made it 2-1. Benbouali, who represented Algeria in the last FIFA World Cup, had scored one goal during that tournament. Pyramids appeared increasingly dangerous, and eight minutes before half-time, Al-Ahram extended the lead to 3-1 with a fine goal from Mohanad Lasheen, who previously made an assist in the match.

In the second half, Pyramids maintained a solid defense and rotated the ball effectively to control the game’s tempo. Mokwena made five substitutions between the 59th and 69th minutes, including bringing on Youssef Obama. The 31-year-old made an impact in the 77th minute, scoring the fourth goal for Pyramids, sealing a convincing 4-1 victory.

With this win, Pyramids FC achieved six victories in six league matches, returning to the top of the Egyptian Premier League, outpacing Al Ahly SC by two points. Pyramids will now shift its focus to the CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash against Sudanese giants El-Merriekh during the upcoming weekend.
