Tennessee football extends 'happy hour' for the season

Tennessee football announced the extension of its ‘happy hour’ promotion, initially created for President Donald Trump’s visit to Neyland Stadium, for the remainder of the 2026 home season. The decision follows the success of the promotion, which contributed to the school’s record sales in concessions.
On Saturday, September 30, 2026, during Trump's visit to watch a game against No. 1 Texas, Neyland Stadium opened its gates two and a half hours before kickoff. To encourage attendance early, the university implemented half-off prices on all concessions for the first hour, a promotion that included discounts on beer, usually priced between $10 and $16. A university spokesman indicated that this led to the university's best day ever in concessions sales.
In response to the enthusiastic turnout, Tennessee athletic director Danny White humorously suggested on social media to make the happy hour a regular feature. "Should we make it a thing? Feels like we should make it a thing," he posted, confirming that attendees will enjoy half-priced concessions for the first hour after the gates open for all remaining home games this season.
In light of the upcoming games against competitors including Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky, and LSU, the gates will now open three hours prior to kickoff instead of the previous two and a half.
The early-entry initiative was noted not only for enhancing the game day experience but also for its financial benefits. Although final sales figures from the record-setting day were not available, Jason Baum, the university's chief communications officer, termed the event a "tremendous success" and indicated that if fans continue to show up early, this could lead to a new trend in concession practices.
