UCLA Tops The Betting Chart This Season

Sammy’s Sportsbook Whispers recently highlighted UCLA as the best betting story of the season. As the Bruins prepared to host their Spring Game in early May, many Las Vegas sportsbooks considered them a fringe bowl team, setting their regular-season win total at O/U 5.5. Early betting raised this to O/U 6 and some sportsbooks even offered O/U 6.5 by August. However, as the season approached Halloween, UCLA stood undefeated with a 6-0 record both straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS).

The Bruins have impressed, converting almost every Over ticket possible and achieving a cover in every game thus far. Ed Salmons, a former Vegas bookmaker, praised the team's performance, stating, "It’s remarkable for a first-year head coach. They run the ball well and don’t make mistakes."

Despite their success, some skepticism remains about the strength of their opponents, as Salmons noted that the only notable victory was at Oregon, questioning the Ducks' current quality as he observed them struggle against Nebraska.

Contrasting UCLA’s rise, Ohio State experienced a significant decline in power rankings following injuries to their quarterback Julian Sayin. Despite covering in a challenging match against Indiana, Sayin's indefinite absence raised concerns about whether the Buckeyes could maintain their performance without him. Salmons commented on the drop from a Heisman finalist to a freshman quarterback, saying, "I dropped Ohio State eight points, but I’ll revisit it when they play their next game."

Meanwhile, in Texas, the Longhorns faced criticism for their underwhelming performance, including losses to unranked Oklahoma and Florida. This marked the first time since 1961 that an AP No. 1 team suffered two consecutive losses against unranked opponents. Slice, a professional bettor, described the Longhorns as struggling to move the ball and facing injury issues.

In the betting landscape, Salmons continued to deliver winning picks, urging confidence in South Carolina as they prepared for their next matchup. With the NFL season underway, the NFC North division was notably performing well, suggesting a promising postseason for all teams within that division for the first time since the NFL expanded its playoff format in 2020.
