Conrad Cautions Against Bragging About Success

Shukri Conrad, the coach of the South African cricket team, stressed the importance of humility despite their recent success. After South Africa triumphed over Australia, clinching a 2-1 Test series victory, Conrad emphasized that claiming to be the best is not a path he advocates. During a press conference at Newlands, he remarked, "I don't think you ever want to walk around saying you're the best but that comes with a sense of knowing."

Conrad's approach reflects a philosophy of continuous improvement, focusing on long-term goals rather than immediate accolades. He noted, "It's certainly not for me or anyone else to puff out the chest and say we've done this, that and the other. It was always about how we're going to get to the top and remain at the top for an extended period of time."

Under Conrad's leadership, South Africa has risen to the top of the ICC Test rankings and has lost only one of the ten Test series he has overseen, which was against New Zealand in 2024. As the team prepares for the possibility of reaching a second successive World Test Championship final, his mindset appears to resonate throughout the squad.

He mentioned, "We can be awesome one minute and absolutely horrendous the next. In the end, we're a lot more awesome than we are horrendous and that's the pleasing part for me."

Overall, Conrad's commitment to maintaining a grounded perspective amidst great achievements may serve as a crucial factor in the team's ongoing success.
