Dave Portnoy Criticizes Ohio State After USC Loss
Newsroom

Dave Portnoy expressed his satisfaction following Ohio State's unexpected loss to USC, which ended with a score of 30-18 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This defeat marked the second loss of the season for the No. 2 ranked Buckeyes, who were playing without their starting quarterback, Julian Sayin, due to injury.
Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, took to social media to voice his displeasure with Ohio State's performance. He remarked, "It makes me sick to my stomach watching USC bully and bruise a once proud Ohio State team. Ryan Day once again totally lost when the pressure is on. YOU HATE TO SEE IT! One day Ohio State fans will thank me for bringing Ryan Day's big game ineptitude to justice."
USC's victory was particularly noteworthy as it came after their own disappointing loss to Wisconsin the previous week, immediately contrasting their performance. Coach Lincoln Riley’s team demonstrated resilience by bouncing back, earning a significant win against a higher-ranked opponent.
Though Ohio State outgained USC in terms of total yards – with the Buckeyes recording 464 yards compared to USC's 338 – the game highlighted Ohio State's struggles in converting scoring opportunities. The Trojans effectively capitalized on their red zone chances, while Ohio State struggled to score until the game's closing minutes.
Luke Fahey, the true freshman quarterback for Ohio State, stepped in for Sayin, but the Buckeyes' offensive performance fell short. Jeremiah Smith delivered a remarkable performance but was unable to lift his team to victory.
In his post-loss commentary, Portnoy broadened his criticism, questioning not only the quality of the USC team but also the effectiveness of Coach Riley. He described the Trojans as "not very good," while criticizing their lack of significant wins under Riley's leadership.
As the college football season progresses, the defeat places Ohio State's future aspirations in jeopardy, while USCs win reinvigorates their campaign for a stronger finish in the College Football Playoff race.
