In the fifth round of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, three South African teams, the Vodacom Bulls, DHL Stormers, and Hollywoodbets Sharks, recorded victories to maintain their positions in the top four of the standings. The competition was slated for a break for the Nations Championship after this round.

The 10bet Lions faced a setback, losing to the only unbeaten team in the competition, the Glasgow Warriors, with a final score of 29-20 on Friday evening. The Lions started the match poorly, trailing 19-3 at halftime despite having chances to score. Their only points during the first half came from a Chris Smith penalty. However, they made a commendable effort in the second half, with tries from Morne van den Berg, Siba Mahashe, and Morne Brandon giving them a brief lead. Unfortunately, a late converted try from Ollie Smith and a penalty, both scored by Glasgow, ensured the Lions left without points.

On Saturday, the DHL Stormers improved their performance after the break, defeating Ulster 33-7 in a home match in Cape Town. The match opened with Ulster scoring first, but the Stormers responded well. Key contributors included Paul de Villiers, Evan Roos, and skipper Ruhan Nel, with Yaqeen Ahmed showcasing his skills with two tries and multiple conversions.

Meanwhile, the Vodacom Bulls secured a 54-26 victory over the Scarlets at Loftus Versfeld, where they led 19-12 at halftime. The Bulls showcased their strength in the second half, scoring half of their tries in the final 22 minutes of the game. Marcell Coetzee and Dylan Maart each scored two tries.

As a result of these matches, the Glasgow Warriors remain at the top of the standings with 23 points, followed by the Vodacom Bulls on 21 points, and the DHL Stormers, also on 21 but in third place due to points difference. The Hollywoodbets Sharks have 19 points, while the 10bet Lions are in 13th position with 9 points.

The Vodacom URC is set to resume on Saturday, 5 December, with upcoming local derbies: the Lions will host the Bulls in Johannesburg, and the Stormers will face the Sharks in Durban.
