Brighton eye historic three-game shutout in trip to face Cherries.
Following a narrow victory over Spurs just before the international break, the Cherries take on the Seagulls, with hopes of earning three successive Premier League victories. AFC Bournemouth vs Brighton kicks off at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, September 13, at 15:00 [GMT+1].
Bournemouth will resume their Premier League campaign with the weekend’s clash against Brighton following a 1-0 win over Spurs just before the break. The Cherries won four of the first six league meetings between both sides (W4, D1, L1). However, momentum has shifted dramatically, with the Cherries losing five of their last six against the Seagulls, managing just a single victory in that period. Meanwhile, six points from their first three matches (W2 L1) is their second-best return at this stage of a Premier League season after 2018/19 (7 points). The Cherries are chasing three successive league wins for the first time since December 2024, and their defensive record provides added optimism. Since conceding four goals in their opening-day 4-2 defeat to Liverpool, Bournemouth have kept two straight clean sheets, facing just 11 shots and only two on target across those games. Remarkably, they are the only side to have registered consecutive clean sheets in that span. A third shutout would match a rare top-flight feat last managed by Arsenal in 1989/90. A 4—2—3—1 formation with Evanilson in attack is expected against the Seagulls.
For Brighton, recent trips to the Vitality have also been encouraging, as the Seagulls have won two of their last three away league games at Bournemouth (L1). With that, a chance to secure back-to-back away wins here for the first time since February 1932 is just within touching distance. Luckily, the Seagulls’ travelling form has been a key part of their rise, and another victory would reinforce their push to remain among the league’s most competitive sides. Brighton’s broader form is equally impressive. Since February, following their heavy 7-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, the Seagulls have collected 31 points in the Premier League — a total bettered only by Liverpool (36), Manchester City (33), and Chelsea (33). In that same period, Brighton have scored 34 goals, again trailing only Liverpool (36). Picking up from their impressive 2-1 win over Manchester City just before the break would be something the 11th-placed side would be keen to do in a bid to climb a few more places up the table. Danny Welbeck is expected to keep his place at the attacking end of Fabian Hürzeler’s 4—2—3—1 formation, having led the attack last time out.
