Fatau Dauda Emphasizes Fairness in Black Stars Goalkeeping

Ghana Black Stars assistant goalkeepers coach Fatau Dauda has emphasized the critical importance of mental management and strict impartiality within his department as the team finalized preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Speaking on the unique psychological dynamics of managing elite shot-stoppers, the former national team player described the goalkeeping unit as a distinct ecosystem requiring equal care and attention.
"So I realized coaching goalkeepers is like a different community," Dauda stated. "Because if you have three or four goalkeepers, you need to make sure you are handling them with care." The trainer warned that showing any favoritism to a preferred starter creates operational risks if injuries or suspensions occur.
"If I like Abigail and I don't like Monica, it will be a big problem," Dauda explained. "If Abigail is not well, how am I going to motivate Monica to play? So I need to motivate them and train them equally so that at any given time they are all ready to play."
This philosophy takes center stage as Dauda oversaw an intense, ongoing debate for the starting jersey among Lawrence Ati-Zigi, domestic standout Benjamin Asare, and Joseph Anang. With the technical staff having recently trimmed the training squad, Dauda's focus remained on keeping all three tournament-bound keepers physically and mentally prepared for Ghana’s upcoming Group L fixtures against England, Croatia, and Panama.
