Liverpool eyeing three-game winning streak as winless Wolves visits.
Liverpool vs. Wolves kicks off at 15:00 [GMT] on Saturday, December 27, at Anfield.
Currently 10 points adrift of league-leading Arsenal, Liverpool [WDDWW] will host winless Wolves, hoping to extend a two-game winning run. Fortunately, the Reds have dominated this fixture in recent seasons, winning 16 of their last 17 Premier League meetings with Wolves. The only blemish in that run came in February 2023, when Wolves stunned Liverpool with a 3-0 victory at Molineux. At Anfield, however, the pattern is even more one-sided. Wolves have lost their last eight league visits here, stretching back to a narrow 1-0 win in December 2010, and only at Manchester City and Liverpool themselves have they endured longer away losing streaks in the top flight. Liverpool’s festive form adds another layer of confidence. They have won 17 of their last 20 Premier League matches played between Christmas and New Year, including each of the last five. At Anfield, they have lost just once in their last 32 league games during this period, with that solitary defeat coming against Wolves back in December 2010. The Reds also arrive on a five-game unbeaten league run, their best sequence since the opening weeks of the season, and remain one of the form sides in the division. A 4—2—3—1 formation with Hugo Ekitike in attack is expected against Wolves. Hugo Ekitike has found the net in each of his last three league outings, scoring five goals in that span, and is closing in on a milestone not reached by a Liverpool player outside Mohamed Salah since 2019.
Wolves’ situation is far bleaker. They have collected just two points from 17 league games this season and are winless in their last 21 Premier League matches, a run that places them among the longest such streaks in the competition’s history. Another defeat here would edge them closer to unwanted records rarely seen in the modern era. Their struggles extend to games against reigning champions too, with Wolves losing 24 of their last 27 away league matches against sides holding the title. There has been little respite under new management either. Rob Edwards has lost all six of his league matches in charge so far and faces the prospect of becoming only the second manager in Premier League history to lose his first seven league games at a club. Goals have been especially hard to come by, with Jørgen Strand Larsen currently enduring his longest top-flight drought, having failed to score in eight consecutive appearances. He is expected to team up with Hwang Hee-Chan at the attacking end of a 3—5—2 formation.
