Philadelphia Union Parts Ways With Head Coach
Newsroom
Philadelphia Union parted ways with Head Coach Bradley Carnell, as announced by the club on May 27, 2026. Carnell, 49, who was the reigning Major League Soccer Coach of the Year, had previously led his team to win the MLS Supporters' Shield last season. However, following a poor run of form that saw the team collect only seven points from 15 games this campaign, the Union decided to let go of the former Chiefs left-back.
Jay Sugarman, the Principal Owner of Philadelphia Union, expressed gratitude towards Carnell's contributions, stating, "On behalf of the Philadelphia Union organization, I want to thank Bradley for his dedication and commitment to the club during his time here. He brought professionalism and passion to his role, and we appreciate everything he has contributed to the team and the organization. We are confident that he will find success in his future coaching endeavors."
In response, Carnell thanked the club, players, and staff, conveying a heartfelt message. "I want to thank the fans, the players, the staff, and everyone involved with this club for the support and commitment during my time here," Carnell shared with the Union's media team. He added, "I’m proud of what we accomplished together and grateful for the relationships and memories we built along the way. To my staff and especially the players, thank you for your hard work and dedication through both the highs and the challenges, you inspired me every day and I appreciate the opportunity to have been part of this team."
