Jacob Misiorowski Reaches 103.6 mph Ten Times

Misiorowski, pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers, recorded an impressive 11 strikeouts over six shutout innings in the Brewers' 6-0 victory at home. Among these pitches, three reached a peak velocity of 103.6 mph, setting a new standard for starting pitchers since Statcast began tracking in 2008.

The 24-year-old right-hander regarded this outing as one of the top three performances of his career, which began less than a year ago and has already been defined by significant achievements. He previously outperformed 2025 NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes and three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw as a rookie, and he carried a 1.50 ERA in three postseason appearances the prior year.

"It's just adrenaline," Misiorowski remarked about his performance. "You start getting hyped up and you want to perform for your teammates behind you because they're doing the same for me. That's the whole goal."

Brewers manager Pat Murphy offered insight into why Misiorowski excels under pressure. "Miz is interested in being great, and he's in that process of being great," Murphy stated.

Misiorowski's remarkable performance on Friday came against the highest-scoring team in the American League. ESPN Research noted that only four pitches of above 103 mph had been recorded by starters since 2008, with Misiorowski having thrown one in a previous outing. Before this performance, Jordan Hicks held the record for the fastest pitch by a starter at 103.2 mph, thrown on July 12, 2022. Remarkably, Misiorowski pitched seven times above this speed within the first two innings alone.

His stellar outing was preceded by a discussion with Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia, who was welcomed into the Brewers’ Wall of Honor earlier that day. Misiorowski described meeting Sabathia as a valuable experience, saying, "It's really cool to meet a guy like that. He came in before [the game] and we got to really talk to him and pick his brain a little bit. It was fun."

Notably, Misiorowski began the game strong, nearly achieving an immaculate inning by striking out the first two batters, Trent Grisham and Ben Rice, using just three pitches each.

Despite facing the challenge, Misiorowski maintained his velocity to throw 103 mph in the fifth inning on his 71st pitch. He concluded the game with two consecutive strikeouts of Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger. With this performance, Misiorowski joined Aroldis Chapman as the only pitchers to have 10 or more pitches reaching over 103 mph in an appearance during the pitch tracking era.

Brewers management praised his work in building strength between starts as a factor contributing to his improved endurance on the mound. "It's not just velo. There's a lot more to it," Murphy added, recognizing Misiorowski's notable results as he leads MLB with 70 strikeouts, the first pitcher to achieve this milestone in his first eight starts of a season since Spencer Strider in 2023.
