Wafer shines as Ireland enjoy home win over Wales

In the Women's Six Nations 2026 match, Ireland secured a 33-12 victory over Wales at Affidea Stadium. This matched marked Ireland's second win in the tournament. Coach Scott Bemand emphasized the importance of recovering from their recent loss to France and aimed for two wins in their final matches on home soil.

Aoife Wafer was a standout performer, scoring two tries, supported by Beibhinn Parsons and Brittany Hogan, which helped Ireland take a 19-7 lead at halftime. Despite a stop-start second half, Wafer's efforts were pivotal in securing a bonus-point victory. Hogan added her second try in the final moments, ensuring a comprehensive win for Ireland.

Initially, Wales entered the match with a confident mindset, having previously scored four tries against world champions England. They made a strong start but Wafer's persistence led to Ireland's opening try, forcing her way over the line with Dannah O'Brien successfully converting.

Wales responded with Georgia Evans crossing for their first try, which Keira Bevan converted to level the match. A try from Cliodhna Moloney-MacDonald was denied, but Wafer soon became the provider, offloading to Parsons, who sprinted down the wing to restore Ireland's lead.

Just before halftime, Hogan secured Ireland’s third try through sustained pressure. The second half saw both teams reduced to 14 players due to yellow cards issued to players from each side.

Wafer crossed again, assisted by Aoife Dalton and Linda Djougang, sealing Ireland's bonus point. Although a potential fifth try from replacement Jones was disallowed after a review, Wales managed to add another try through Jasmine Joyce. Ireland concluded the scoring with Hogan's second try, finalizing a much-needed victory.

The scheduled final game against Scotland is anticipated to attract a record crowd at Aviva Stadium as Ireland continues to build momentum.
