FIFA Investigates Post-Match Scuffle Between Argentina And Spain Players

Molina later confronted Rodri, who faced a verbal altercation with his former Manchester City teammate Nicolas Otamendi. Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and other players attempted to deescalate the situation.

FIFA issued a statement indicating that its "disciplinary committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the FIFA disciplinary code regarding the post-match incidents." The statement, however, did not provide a specific timeline for the investigation and did not mention Paredes, who avoided a red card during the match but might still face a suspension.

Spain needed extra time to secure a 1-0 victory in the final after Argentina was reduced to ten men, with Enzo Fernandez receiving a second yellow card during stoppage time at the close of the regular 90 minutes. During the trophy presentation, the Argentina players turned their backs to the podium, facing their fans while Spain's team lifted the trophy, an action that was perceived as disrespectful to the new champions, who had earlier shown their opponents a guard of honor to collect their medals.
