KTM has signed Alex Marquez for its factory MotoGP team beginning with the 2027 season. This confirmation comes as part of a series of rider announcements following the reaching of the Concorde Agreement. Marquez, who finished as the runner-up in the 2025 MotoGP world championship, will replace Pedro Acosta, who left for Ducati.
For Marquez, this move concludes a successful four-year tenure at Gresini, where he achieved four victories and revived a career that had stagnated during his previous three years with Honda. KTM has emphasized the attributes that Marquez brings to the team, underscoring his talent as a crucial factor in advancing the development of the brand’s new 850cc motorcycle.
Pit Beirer, KTM's motorsports director, expressed pride in securing Marquez, describing him as an exceptional talent. "Alex brings not only outstanding skill and race intelligence but also determination and a winning mindset that perfectly matches our DNA," Beirer stated. He added that the shared goal is to elevate the KTM RC16 and compete at the forefront of MotoGP.
Marquez will enter his eighth season in the premier class, having previously raced for Honda and Ducati alongside Gresini. Recently, he has been recovering from a series of injuries that disrupted his performance. KTM is also expected to announce the signing of Fabio Di Giannantonio soon, with the Italian set to shift from Ducati’s VR46 team to KTM’s RC16 for the upcoming season.
In addition to its promising roster, KTM currently faces challenges, having to resolve a recurring technical issue that has caused its MotoGP prototypes to unexpectedly shut down. This problem, traced back to excessive vibrations affecting the electronic control unit, led to safety concerns during recent races, including an incident during the Catalan Grand Prix where Marquez collided with Acosta’s bike after it lost power.
