Max Dowman, 16, Leaves School for Arsenal Career

Arsenal youth player Max Dowman, aged 16, collected his GCSE results and left his £30,000-per-year school on the eve of his first full-time season as a professional footballer. Dowman, who previously set the record as the Premier League's youngest goalscorer, was photographed in his school uniform while receiving his results at Brentwood School in Essex yesterday.

Over the past season, Dowman balanced his studies with his football commitments, notably scoring in a crucial match against Everton at the Emirates Stadium in March, contributing to Arsenal's title win, and later receiving his winners' medal in May.

Despite being still too young to share a dressing room with senior teammates due to safeguarding rules, he is anticipated to play a significant role as Arsenal defends its title this season. With his peers embarking on their Sixth Form studies, Dowman will now focus fully on his football career.

Upon collecting his results, Dowman expressed his gratitude to Brentwood School for their support during his education. "I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Brentwood School for everything they have done for me during my time here," he stated. "Although my journey at the school is ending earlier than expected as I pursue my football career, I will always be incredibly grateful for the support that the school and the staff have given me."

Brentwood School reported that nearly 60% of the GCSE grades awarded were between 7 to 9, equivalent to A or A*. Dowman reflected on the positive impact his time at school had on him, noting the lessons learned both on and off the pitch would stay with him as he progresses in his career. He extended particular thanks to several teachers for their encouragement and support, emphasizing that he would cherish the memories and friendships made there. "I am excited for what the future holds, but I will always look back on my time at Brentwood with great pride and gratitude," he added.

The school has notable alumni including footballer Frank Lampard, author Douglas Adams, broadcaster Noel Edmonds, and actor Griff Rhys Jones.
