Sergio Perez signed a multi-year extension with Cadillac, ensuring his position with the team until 2029. The 36-year-old driver, who is poised to celebrate his 300th Grand Prix start at his home race in Mexico City this weekend, initially joined the American Formula One team in August 2022, ahead of their inaugural season on the grid. He races alongside fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas.
Since making his Formula One debut in 2011, Perez has achieved six Grand Prix victories, with five wins coming from his time with Red Bull Racing between 2021 and 2024, and one win for Racing Point (now Aston Martin) in 2020. Recognized for his talent, he finished third in the drivers' championship in 2022 and second behind his teammate Max Verstappen in 2023. Despite having two years remaining on his Red Bull contract, Perez was released at the end of the 2024 season as the team determined he could not adequately support Verstappen's championship bid.
Currently, Perez finds himself at the bottom of the 2026 standings, having posted three 14th-place finishes in Barcelona, Silverstone, and Azerbaijan as his best results. Neither he nor Bottas has secured any championship points for Cadillac thus far.
"Joining Cadillac from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," Perez commented. "Building a Formula One team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed to the next three years."
