Tobi Amusan secured her first Diamond League victory of the 2026 season on Sunday, May 31, smashing her own previously set meeting record in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco. The 29-year-old clocked a time of 12.28 seconds, which not only matched her season's best but also comfortably outpaced her rivals.
Bahamian hurdler Devynne Charlton finished in second place with a time of 12.40 seconds, while Dutch athlete Nadine Visser took third, finishing in 12.47 seconds. Amusan's winning performance not only earned her maximum points on the Diamond League circuit but also broke her own record of 12.45 seconds that she set at the same venue in 2025.
This victory is a significant milestone for Amusan, who had previously opened her Diamond League campaign with strong finishes but was still in search of her first win of the season. Earlier, she finished third in Shanghai with a time of 12.41 seconds and improved her performance in Xiamen, where she achieved a season's best of 12.28 seconds, placing second behind American hurdler Masai Russell.
Amusan's latest triumph in Rabat indicates that she is hitting her stride at a crucial moment, particularly given the caliber of the competition. Her time of 12.28 seconds ranks among the fastest performances worldwide this year and is the fourth-fastest of her distinguished career.
Notably, her resurgence follows a strong start to the outdoor season, as she had previously won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Championships in Accra, contributing to Nigeria's first gold medal of that competition. Amusan continues to affirm her status as one of the most accomplished athletes in world athletics. Her victory in Rabat further bolsters her confidence ahead of an international schedule that includes defending her Commonwealth Games title and seeking qualification for the inaugural Ultimate Championships later this season.
