Tom Grennan Criticized for Glory-Hunting at Coventry Parade

Singer Tom Grennan faced criticism for glory-hunting during Coventry City's Premier League promotion parade. Fans noted his previously professed support for Manchester United and Luton Town after he claimed allegiance to Coventry, stating, "this is my grandma's club."
Grennan participated prominently in the celebration, speaking to Sky Sports News about his newfound love for Coventry City. He performed at the parade on May 4, 2026, following the club's successful promotion to the Premier League after years of lower division football. In a live interview, he expressed, "My grandma is from Coventry so I've always had that link to Cov. I attended my first Coventry match at the Ricoh Stadium in 2016 and fell in love with it. I saw what the football club meant to the people. The spirit of the community and the hope were evident, even if the football wasn't the best. I fell in love and get goosebumps talking about it. It felt like this was my club; I've not looked back since."
Tom Grennan had identified himself as a Manchester United fan in the past. In an interview for the club's 'My United' series in 2018, he stated, "It’s always been drilled into me. I was bought a Man United babygro as a baby. I have a significant Irish family, many of whom are United supporters. I was made to watch DVDs of classic United games, and I’ve always been drawn to the Manchester United badge; perhaps it’s the devil on it that I like!"
His favorite player from Manchester United was Paul Scholes, who he regarded as a major influence. Additionally, Grennan has also expressed affection for Luton Town. Responding to a fan's query about his loyalty toward Luton, he mentioned, "Played for Luton, always look for their results, my second team."
Interestingly, Grennan had previously indicated that Luton was his second team, not Coventry, who had just achieved promotion. He had been part of Luton's youth setup before changing paths to a music career. Reflecting on his decision to leave football, he admitted, "I didn’t regret it . . . I just fell out of love with it and concentrated on music."
Despite his burgeoning music career, which led to hits including 'Found What I’ve Been Looking For,' fans have commented on his apparent switch of loyalty to Coventry, with many questioning his dedication to one team throughout his public persona.
