Herro wants to 'move on' from Bam altercation

Newsroom

Tyler Herro stated that he wants to "move on" from his physical altercation with former teammate Bam Adebayo last week in Las Vegas and is "focused on the next chapter in Milwaukee." In an interview with ESPN, Herro expressed, "Honestly, I'm just trying to move past all of it. I'm focused on Milwaukee and building something special. They obviously just traded the greatest player in their history, so we want to come in and help continue what they've been doing."

Herro emphasized that if he had to play anywhere besides the Miami Heat, where he was named Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 and an All-Star during the 2024-25 season, it would be his hometown team in Milwaukee. “I'm ready to come home and not prove everyone wrong,” he noted, “but just be able to represent the city and the state because I wanted to do that coming out of school as well.”

His comments came shortly after ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Herro was involved in a physical altercation with Adebayo at the Resorts World Hotel in Las Vegas on July 10. The incident began when Adebayo approached Herro shortly after 9 a.m. PT on that Friday. Adebayo and the Heat had come to train on the same court where Herro had worked out earlier, as Adebayo stayed for a practice with his AAU team. According to sources familiar with the situation, Adebayo confronted Herro over comments the guard made on social media criticizing Adebayo after their seven-year partnership with the Heat ended when Herro was traded to Milwaukee as part of a blockbuster deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Herro replied verbally in a manner that Adebayo found objectionable, leading to a physical confrontation where Adebayo struck Herro near the chin, although the specifics of the physical contact differ in descriptions. According to sources, Herro did not fall to the ground and was restrained by others from retaliating. Adebayo had taken issue with remarks from a social media account alleged to be associated with Herro, questioning Adebayo's $60 million salary and implying that if Herro had been healthy, he would have needed more support from his teammates.

This discussion seemed to stem from comments made by Adebayo after the Heat's elimination in the play-in tournament, when he noted needing more help from the roster to contend for a title. Sources within the Heat indicated that Adebayo and Herro generally had a positive relationship but grew distant over the previous year, partly because Herro played only 33 games due to various injuries and struggled to adapt to new offensive strategies.

Adebayo, who is the Heat's captain, suggested multiple times that Herro needed to improve his fitting into the new scheme. After Herro's season debut, Adebayo commented positively on the new offensive style that prioritized ball sharing over the pick-and-roll, which is Herro's strong suit.

Herro was present courtside at the Thomas & Mack Center for the summer league game between the Heat and Bucks. During an interview, he mentioned, "It's all love in Miami," when asked about any awkwardness with his former team. He stated, "I've seen a couple of the guys, coaching staff, Chris Quinn, Spo [Erik Spoelstra], the front office guys; we are all good in Miami. Just an opportunity for both sides to reset, get a fresh start, and both are super happy with this."
