Daniel Amokachi appointed 22Bet's Pan-African brand ambassador

Former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi was unveiled as the Pan-African brand ambassador for sports betting company 22Bet at an event held in Lagos on Wednesday, August 6, 2026. The announcement took place at the BON Hotel in Ikeja, where company representatives stated that the partnership aims to promote African football culture, support grassroots communities, and encourage responsible engagement with sports across the continent.

In his remarks following the signing of the partnership agreement, Amokachi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, considering it a privilege to be chosen among many football legends across Africa. "I am honoured to stand before you today. There are over a million legends out there who could easily be standing where I am today, so I give God the glory for this opportunity. Anybody could have been standing here today, and I’m truly honoured," he said.

Amokachi revealed that discussions about the partnership began during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He embraced the offer due to its Pan-African vision, stating, "I have worked with agencies before. I was with a Turkish agency until 22Bet contacted me during AFCON. Whenever it has something to do with Nigeria or Africa, I always try to embrace it. A lot of offers came, but I turned them down because I was comfortable. What attracted me to this partnership is its Pan-African nature. It allows me to do more in giving back to the African continent."

Another significant factor in Amokachi's decision was 22Bet's commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). He noted, "One of the core reasons I accepted this contract is because of the CSR projects 22Bet is involved in. We have seen many companies enter Nigeria, make money, and leave without giving back. The more you make, the more you should invest in the communities and the people of the country."

Meanwhile, 22Bet Country Manager Fikayo Ogunfuye commented on the partnership's foundation in a shared vision to promote African football beyond purely commercial interests. He referred to Amokachi as a football icon whose influence remains significant across generations. Ogunfuye articulated the partnership's long-term goals, emphasizing the importance of celebrating African football culture and contributing to the communities that sustain the sport.

"Football remains one of the strongest forces uniting our continent, from the streets of Lagos to communities across West, East, and Southern Africa. The game shapes identity, builds character, and creates opportunities. Through this partnership, we want to celebrate that culture and amplify authentic African football stories," Ogunfuye added.

22Bet plans to utilize Amokachi's platform to support local football communities, celebrate African football heroes, and encourage responsible participation in sports over the coming months. Known as "The Bull," Amokachi had a distinguished playing career with Club Brugge, Everton, and Beşiktaş, and he was part of Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team and the Dream Team that won Africa’s first Olympic football gold medal in 1996.
