Wiebes Claims First Yellow Jersey at Tour de France Femmes

Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes claimed the first yellow jersey of the Tour de France Femmes on Saturday, August 1, 2026, after winning the opening stage in Lausanne. Wiebes finished ahead of Mauritian Kim Le Court and European champion Demi Vollering in a thrilling sprint finish. The 27-year-old Wiebes secured the race leader's jersey by completing the stage in a time that put her four seconds ahead of Le Court and six seconds before Vollering, aided by bonus seconds awarded at the finish line. This victory marked Wiebes's 10th Tour stage win and the 132nd victory of her career.

Demi Vollering, considered one of the overall contenders, gained an advantage over her rivals by earning four bonus seconds, finishing in third place. This advantage put her ahead of the last two winners of this race, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Kasia Niewiadoma, both of whom finished in eighth and ninth place respectively. Other potential contenders, including Paula Blasi and Anna van der Breggen, lost additional time, finishing 12th and 13th respectively, eight seconds behind Vollering.

In the early part of the 138km stage, four riders managed to break away: Czech Nikola Noskova, Spaniard Idoia Eraso, Dutch rider Maud Rijnbeek, and Frenchwoman Oceane Mahe. They built a maximum lead of six minutes but were caught by the peloton just 6km before the finish line. The next stage will take place on Sunday, remaining in Switzerland, as the riders tackle a hilly 147.9km course from Aigle to Geneva.
