Arsenal has turned its attention to building on their Premier League triumph following a trophy parade. Manager Mikel Arteta, whose influence has grown after capturing the club’s first domestic title in 22 years, is preparing a summer plan as important decisions await.
The Gunners suffered a heartbreak in the Champions League final against Paris St-Germain last Saturday, prompting Arteta to emphasize the necessity of making significant transfer decisions to advance the club further.
Amongst the key targets on Arsenal's wishlist are Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth. The club also aims to finalize a new contract for Arteta, whose current deal ends at the close of next season.
Last month, talks over a new contract were paused so Arsenal could concentrate on concluding the campaign. However, with the season now over, negotiations are positioned to resume during the summer, although finalization is unlikely until Arteta returns from holiday. Positive progress was made in initial talks, and sources within the club imply optimism about Arteta renewing his contract. The new deal is expected to span a minimum of three years and reflect a significant pay rise from his current £10m annual salary, which includes an additional £5m upon qualifying for the Champions League. Following Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City, Arteta could emerge as the highest-paid manager in England.
Arsenal’s co-chair, Josh Kroenke, reiterated the club’s commitment to keeping Arteta, noting his enjoyment of the project. Consequently, substantial investment will be required to ensure Arteta remains at the helm. Amidst this, the Gunners' planning for the next season is pivotal as they target improvements in midfield, attack, and defense.
Rogers and Kroupi are anticipated to exceed £80 million each, while Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid is valued at over £120 million. The potential signings could hinge on player sales, as Arsenal is willing to entertain offers for the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.
Moreover, Arsenal is contemplating a homegrown sale of Ethan Nwaneri and is also receptive to offers for Christian Norgaard and Ben White. The current market dynamics indicate that they are weighing balancing their spending with a keen eye on player renewals and bonuses after significant investment last season.
In addition to Kroupi and Rogers, Arsenal is exploring young talents like 16-year-old Jeremy Monga from Leicester, considered one of England's leading prospects.
As summer progresses, the focus remains on solidifying Arteta's contract, balancing player sales, and potentially bringing in new talents to reinforce the squad for the next campaign.
