On July 5, 2022, Enrique Riquelme shared a photo on his Instagram alongside Haaland and singer Ozuna, captioning it ""De pretemporada". The image featured Riquelme with the Manchester City striker, Ozuna, Ignacio Maluquer, and Sandra García-Sanjuán Machado. The candidate stated that he would secure Haaland's signing if chosen as president of Real Madrid.

Almost four years later, the photo gained traction after Riquelme revealed in the TV program 'El Hormiguero' with Pablo Motos that he would sign Haaland if he defeats Florentino Pérez in the elections.

According to El Mundo, the connection between Riquelme and Haaland dates back to a dinner in Marbella in 2021 and involved an agreement with Haaland's father, bypassing the player's agent at the time. At that time, Haaland was playing for Borussia Dortmund. However, Riquelme's presidential candidacy did not progress, and the Norwegian forward eventually signed with Manchester City.

Since then, Riquelme and Haaland's circle have maintained their relationship. Following Riquelme’s commitment regarding Haaland, Manchester City responded by stating, "It's false." Riquelme's latest comments on Haaland incited comparisons to the famous Figo case due to the nature of his announcement, promises made before a notary, and subsequent denials.
