Aston Villa Triumphs in Europa League, Emery Secures Fifth Title

Aston Villa ended a 44-year wait for European glory on May 21, 2026, after defeating SC Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final. This victory further cemented manager Unai Emery's reputation as the competition's top coach, marking his record-extending fifth UEFA Cup/Europa League title. The final took place at Besiktas Park in Istanbul, delivering Aston Villa's first major trophy in three decades.

Emery had previously lifted the trophy three consecutive times with Sevilla FC from 2014 to 2016 and guided Villarreal CF to success in the Europa League in 2021. With this triumph, he joined the ranks of legendary managers Giovanni Trapattoni, Carlo Ancelotti, and Jose Mourinho, being one of the only coaches to win five major European finals.
