Atlético Madrid Pursues Cuti Romero

Atlético Madrid recently pursued Cuti Romero as part of their transfer plans. The club prepared an initial offer to Tottenham Hotspur for around 30 million euros, aiming to secure this long-desired target. The 28-year-old Argentine central defender prioritized Atlético over Inter Milan.
Atlético indicated its commitment to sign Romero, who is keen to don the red-and-white jersey. The club needs to finalize departures, including Ruggeri and Molina, who are linked to Aston Villa and AS Roma, respectively. Their sales are necessary not only to raise funds but also to free up salary space to accommodate Romero’s contract, which is one of the priciest at Tottenham.
After Simeone's request for Romero last summer, when Atlético hesitated to meet Tottenham's asking price of around 55 million euros, he remained a top priority for Atlético. Despite Inter’s interest in signing him, which included a proposal of 35 million euros plus five in variables, Romero's main desire continued to lean towards playing in Madrid. Following a failed move to Atlético and a lucrative contract extension with Tottenham until 2029, Romero incorporated a special clause allowing him the opportunity to respond to offers from the top three La Liga clubs.
Romero has openly expressed his desire to play for Simeone, further incentivizing Atlético’s efforts to acquire him. With Tottenham amenable to letting him go this summer and a sale price tagged at around 40 million euros, Atlético felt the situation was favorable. Mateu Alemany, who was on the verge of finalizing player exits, prepared a roadmap to bring in a central defender capable of completing the squad. This move would enhance the defensive unit significantly, ultimately aiming to fulfill an aspiration to have Cuti Romero in the team.
