Newsroom

iDiski Times analyst Junior Khanye praised Bafana Bafana winger Thapelo Maseko following his impressive performance in the team’s 1-1 draw against Czechia on Thursday, June 19, 2026. The match took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the USA and marked the second group-stage encounter for both teams, with South Africa positioned at the bottom of their group and Czechia in third place, positioned sixth among the 12 third-placed teams.

In the match, Teboho Mokoena netted the only goal for Bafana, equalizing from the penalty spot after Czechia’s Michal Sadílek opened the scoring within the first six minutes. Maseko, age 22, was on loan at Cypriot club AEL Limassol from Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the previous season, where he made 15 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Khanye commented on iDiski TV about Maseko’s development after moving to Europe, highlighting his role in earning the penalty. “Maseko has improved; he creates opportunities and gets behind the defense,” he remarked. “He was instrumental in the penalty, creating the chance, and had a good understanding with Mudau.”

South Africa will conclude their group stage matches against South Korea on Thursday, June 25, 2026. This crucial match is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 AM (SAST) at Estadio Monterrey in Mexico.
