Junior Comments on Mbokazi's Future After Strong WC

Junior Khanye, an iDiski TV analyst, stated that Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi will likely not remain at Chicago Fire for long following his impressive performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Khanye’s remarks came after South Africa's exit from the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
South Africa made history by reaching the second round of the FIFA World Cup for the first time but were eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Canada in the last 32 round on Sunday. Despite the loss, Mbokazi was highlighted as one of the standout performers in the Bafana squad, particularly in the match against Canada where he executed key clearances.
Khanye expressed his belief that the 20-year-old defender, who joined the MLS club in January, has showcased qualities that will attract attention from other clubs. "Mbekezeli Mbokazi, they'll be lucky if the boy stays at Chicago," Khanye remarked on iDiski TV. "Maybe he can stay for another season, but I’m sure the boy has made a name for himself. He helped us significantly; we could have lost this game by two or three goals.
"There’s a ball he cleared off the goal line in the second half. If you check how he covers, he’s like a wiper. The way he reads the game—usually players who can do this are midfielders, clever, talented players who are so skillful. The boy is exceptionally gifted at his age; his anticipation and game reading are smart, and he’s very strong. He wins aerial battles and is a very clever player. He also covered Ime Okon a lot."
