McCarthy Completes Move To Europe From Chiefs
Newsroom
South African defender Aden McCarthy completed his transfer from Kaizer Chiefs to FK Sabah ahead of the 2026/27 season. McCarthy, 22, ended a memorable breakout season with a lucrative move to Europe, believed to be in the region of R7-million excluding potential add-ons and with a future percentage resale clause. Having profited from the long-term injury of Rushwin Dortley, the academy graduate established himself as one of the most consistent performers at Amakhosi and subsequently moved to the Azerbaijani Premier League Champions. Their maiden title success allowed them to qualify for the 1st round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, where McCarthy aimed to be involved as one of their major off-season investments. He followed the likes of Siyabonga Ngezana and Yusuf Maart as the more recent exports of the club, who made moves abroad after joining FCSB and SV Reid respectively over the past couple of seasons.
