Puck Pieterse, the talented rider from Fenix-Premier Tech, has made headlines as she gears up for the Ardennes Classics, particularly La Flèche Wallonne. In a recent interview, she stated, "I’d rather have one real standout result than three podiums," emphasizing her focus on achieving a significant victory rather than merely finishing in the top three.

Last year, Pieterse enjoyed a remarkable run, standing on the podium in all three Ardennes Classics, including a win at La Flèche Wallonne. However, she is not feeling the pressure to replicate that success this year. The 23-year-old Dutch cyclist recognizes that while her form remains strong, the competition has intensified. "The overall level has increased," she noted, highlighting that more riders have stepped up their game, making races more challenging.

Pieterse's recent performances reflect this heightened competition. She finished tenth at the Amstel Gold Race, a race she had previously excelled in. Despite not feeling her best during that event, she remains optimistic about her chances in the upcoming races. "It’s about more than just the legs; it’s about the overall competition," she explained.

The increased competitiveness is evident in teams like FDJ United-SUEZ, which has seen multiple riders achieve success this spring. With victories in prestigious races like De Brabantse Pijl and Paris-Roubaix, the team has demonstrated the depth of talent in the peloton this season. Pieterse acknowledges this trend, stating, "They’ve already won Classics with four different riders this spring, which says a lot."

Despite the challenges, Pieterse is determined to make her mark in the Ardennes. She has been building her form with key races leading up to this point, including a fourth-place finish at Milan-San Remo and a third at the Tour of Flanders. "Of course you want that again," she said, referring to her successful run last year. "But it won’t be easy. I’d rather have one real standout result than three podiums."

Looking ahead, Pieterse is focused on achieving that standout victory. She will be competing with the number one on her back at La Flèche Wallonne, a testament to her previous success. With a supportive team behind her, she feels confident in her ability to chase that top step once again.
