Splitter Focuses on Team Amid Coaching Uncertainty

In a season filled with unexpected challenges, Portland Trail Blazers interim head coach Tiago Splitter is determined to maintain focus on his team’s performance as they make their first playoff appearance in five years. Amid swirling reports about new owner Tom Dundon seeking outside candidates to replace him, Splitter stated, "Just trying to be a pro," before the Blazers secured a narrow 106-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series.

Splitter, who took over the coaching duties following the arrest of former head coach Chauncey Billups in connection with a federal investigation into a poker scheme, has led the Blazers to a commendable 42-40 record this season. His leadership has been pivotal in the development of All-Star forward Deni Avdija, who has emerged as a finalist for the Most Improved Player award.

Despite the pressure of his interim position, Splitter has managed to keep the team focused on basketball. Avdija praised Splitter's ability to adapt to the head coaching role under difficult circumstances, stating, "He’s getting the best out of everybody. He’s believing in each and single one of his players, and we love playing for him. He’s a winner, he’s a competitor. He knows how it is to win a championship."

As Dundon looks to implement cost-cutting measures within the organization, including limiting travel for two-way players and reducing complimentary tickets for support staff, the Blazers are navigating a complex landscape.
