Daniel Siebert to Referee Champions League Final

German referee Daniel Siebert directed the Champions League final between French team PSG and English side Arsenal on Saturday, May 30, at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, at 6:00 PM (CEST). The officiating team included Spanish officials Carlos del Cerro and Guadalupe Porras, who served as the VAR support and reserve referee, respectively. The crew was completed by German officials Bastian Dankert as VAR and Robert Schröder as assistant, along with Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn on the sidelines, and Swiss Sandro Schärer as the fourth official, as confirmed by the UEFA Referees Committee on Monday.

This marked Siebert's first final in a UEFA club competition. The 42-year-old, who was born in Berlin, has been an international referee since 2015. This season, he officiated nine Champions League matches, including the quarter-finals first leg between Sporting and Arsenal (0-1) and the semi-finals second leg between Mikel Arteta's team and Atlético de Madrid (3-0), which resulted in the English team qualifying. Siebert faced criticism from Atlético Madrid after that match. He previously officiated the Tottenham-Atlético de Madrid (3-2) in the round of 16 and Athletic Club-PSG (0-0) during the group stage, marking his only encounter with the French team, which defended the title won last season. Siebert also refereed the Europa League semi-finals second leg between Manchester United and Athletic Club (4-1) and managed two matches in Euro 2024 and three in Euro 2020.

In related news, Italian referee Maurizio Mariani was appointed to officiate the Conference League final between Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, May 27, in Leipzig, Germany (9:00 PM CEST), as announced by the UEFA Referees Committee earlier this week.
