NFF empathises with Rivers United FC over road accident

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expressed its empathy towards players and officials of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, who sustained minor injuries in a road accident while heading to Awka, the capital of Anambra State, for a 2026 President Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United of Lafia.

The NFF received the news with shock regarding the road accident that involved players and officials around Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt while they were on their way to the match. Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary, stated on Thursday evening, “While we thank God that there were no fatalities, we empathise with those who sustained minor injuries in the accident and wish them quick recovery.”

According to fixtures released by the NFF, Rivers United FC was scheduled to play against Nasarawa United FC in Awka on Saturday, with kickoff set for 4 PM. The winner of this match would proceed to the quarter-finals of the competition.
