Tom Pidcock Faces Mental Challenges Post-Crash

Tom Pidcock, the British cycling star, is gearing up for the prestigious Liège-Bastogne-Liège race, but he admits that his mental state is still recovering from a harrowing crash earlier this season. Despite celebrating a victory on stage 3 of the Tour of the Alps, Pidcock revealed that he is far from his best form, stating, "Mentally, it's super challenging."

Having suffered knee ligament damage from a dramatic fall at the Volta a Catalunya, Pidcock's return to competitive cycling has been marked by both triumph and struggle. His recent win came just four days before the iconic Belgian race, but he was candid about the difficulties he faced during the race. "I was dropped on the first 22km climb of Wednesday's stage, and only after coming back in the cars did I start to believe a win was possible," he explained.

The Pinarello Q36.5 team played a crucial role in his success, working hard to chase down the early breakaway and maintain control during the final kilometers. Pidcock's early sprint through the last corner showcased his determination, allowing him to clinch his third victory of the season. However, he acknowledged that his performance was not reflective of his usual strength, saying, "The last time I was racing, I was one of the strongest guys in every race I was doing."

As he prepares for Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Pidcock's focus remains on improving his form and mental resilience. "This win feels really nice, but I am suffering – it's completely the opposite of before my crash," he said. His journey back to peak performance will be closely watched as he competes against top riders like Tadej Pogačar and Remco Evenepoel in the upcoming race.
