During his time with IICC Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan, Odegbami joined the team as a student in 1974, navigating the challenges of balancing education in Mechanical Engineering with his football career. This commitment not only aided his studies but also helped him maintain his livelihood.

Odegbami recalls the historic triumphs of Shooting Stars in December 1976 when they clinched both the Nigerian National League and the Africa Cup-Winners Cup. He played a pivotal role in these victories, scoring seven out of the sixteen goals during regulation time. The significant achievement marked Nigeria's first continental trophy after defeating Tonnerre Kalala FC of Cameroon, which had won the inaugural title in 1975.

In 1977, as the defending champions, IICC Shooting Stars had a unique opportunity to compete in either the Champions Club Cup or defend their title in the Africa Cup-Winners Cup. The choice was influenced by political considerations, which ultimately allowed rival Water Corporation FC to represent Nigeria in the African Club Championship. Water Corporation FC performed commendably, reaching the quarter-finals, which highlighted the team's potential and led to their coach being appointed to lead the National football team, the Green Eagles.

Additionally, the rivalry between Rangers FC and Shooting Stars FC intensified as both clubs competed in the same continental tournament. The matches held significant importance, showcasing the competitive spirit inherent in Nigerian football.
