Scaloni Acknowledges Spain's Superiority After Loss

Lionel Scaloni, the coach of Argentina, demonstrated a commendable display of sportsmanship following Argentina's defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. He dismissed complaints regarding the officiating and acknowledged Spain's superiority in the match, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Spain after Ferran scored during extra time. Scaloni responded to a question about the fairness of the officiating by stating, "No, we lost because they were better, guys. We need to recognize it; they played better. We surely arrived just right, that is the reality, but sometimes it is good to recognize, and I believe that will make us better, no doubt."

The defeat was particularly painful for Scaloni, who expressed sorrow for not being able to provide a win for their fans. "We have not been able to win. We are aware; we play for the joy of our people, and that is why it hurts. We will continue to fight," he added.

Concerning his future as national team coach, Scaloni noted: "These are things that after a tournament like this are normal. One can say it, one re-evaluates. We are here until December. The most significant thing is the selection, not who is in charge, whether I am here or not."
