Di Livio: ‘Chiesa made mistake joining Liverpool, Juventus players unworthy of jersey’

Angelo Di Livio, a former Italy and Juventus player, claimed that Federico Chiesa ‘made a mistake joining Liverpool’ and suggested that he should instead consider a return to Roma. Di Livio criticized the current Juventus squad, stating there are players who are ‘unworthy of the jersey.’

In an interview with Retesport, Di Livio remarked on Chiesa’s struggles for playing time at Anfield, noting that despite his talents, he has been unable to make a significant impact since joining the Merseyside club. Chiesa has been hesitant to leave the Premier League, even as opportunities to play diminish.

Since transferring to Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024, Chiesa has only made 51 competitive appearances, scoring five goals and providing five assists over two seasons, accumulating just 1,194 minutes of playtime. Di Livio expressed confidence that under coach Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, Chiesa could regain his form and return to the Italian national team.

In further remarks, Di Livio also conveyed his disappointment toward the current Juventus roster managed by Luciano Spalletti. He asserted that the team is lacking quality and referred to the squad as ‘poor,’ stating he never expected to witness a situation where players could lose and the reaction would be so indifferent.

Juventus recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to Genoa, highlighting the struggles faced by Spalletti and his players. Di Livio urged a reassessment of both Spalletti’s tactics and the quality of the players available to him, suggesting that while coaching plays a role, the overall caliber of the squad significantly contributes to the current challenges.
