Rangers extend Ilechukwu's contract until 2027

Rangers International Football Club, based in Enugu, confirmed on June 13, 2026, that they have extended the contract of Technical Adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu until 2027, effectively resolving speculation regarding his future at the title-winning club. This announcement came swiftly after the team secured their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, highlighted by a decisive 2-1 victory against Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on the final day of the 2025/26 season.

In their official statement, Rangers expressed confidence in Ilechukwu's leadership, stating, "Building on what we've started. Our Technical Adviser has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension ahead of the new season. New season. Same belief. Greater ambitions. Congratulations, Sabi. Good to have you on board as we continue the journey together. The journey continues."

The decision to extend Ilechukwu's contract aims to provide stability as the Flying Antelopes prepare to defend their league crown and compete in the CAF Champions League next season, joining fellow competitors Rivers United, who finished as runners-up.

Before the title win, Ilechukwu had cast doubt on his future with the club, suggesting he would evaluate his options after his contract expired. He reflected, "It’s something we would sit and talk about. Seriously, I’m not saying that I’m going to stay. I’m not saying I’m not going to stay... But the truth is, I don’t want to work anywhere more than two years. What I’ve done at Rangers is because of Amobi Ezeaku. It might be goodbye. It might also not be goodbye."

Despite initial uncertainties, Rangers' management successfully convinced Ilechukwu to continue the project he has been building in Enugu.
