Roddick Calls Djokovic the Greatest Male Tennis Player Ever
Newsroom
Former tennis star Andy Roddick named Novak Djokovic as the greatest male tennis player of all time. Roddick, who spent his career competing against the legendary Big Three, referred to objective statistics to support his stance.
Despite expressing respect and personal affection for his rival Roger Federer, Roddick insisted that historical data overwhelmingly confirms Djokovic’s superiority in the sport. He remarked, “There are two GOAT arguments, right? There’s one based on stats and there’s one based on feelings. With Novak [Djokovic], if you just put his numbers side-by-side, Slam totals, head-to-head record against most people on earth. He has a positive head-to-head record against his two biggest rivals, has won the most Masters 1000s, and he’s adding weeks to the all-time number one list. It’s actually hard to make a statistical argument against Novak having the best resume ever at this point.”
Roddick pointed out that while personal preference may influence some opinions—"Then the conversation, eventually, when someone’s countering that, comes into stylistically. I like this person, and this person carries themselves a certain way”—the facts heavily favor Djokovic.
Widely recognized as one of the greatest tennis players in history, Djokovic holds the all-time men's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles. He has also made history by spending 428 weeks at World No. 1, more than any other man or woman in tennis history. Notably, he is the first and only player to achieve a Career Golden Masters, having won all nine active ATP Masters tournaments.
