Maldini remains uncertain about Italy's coaching offer

Reports in Italy indicated that Paolo Maldini was still not convinced about the FIGC's invitation to become Italy's technical director. Antonio Conte and Roberto Mancini remained the leading candidates for the coaching position.

FIGC President Malagò was working to shape the staff for the national team, with the search for a new technical director being a critical part of his project. Although Malagò had only recently been inaugurated, media sources disclosed his focus on bringing Maldini into his plans before a new head coach for the Azzurri was selected.

Latest reports by Corriere della Sera, referenced by TMW, suggested that Malagò had reached out to Maldini again, but the former defender continued to be hesitant regarding the FIGC's offer. Another follow-up contact was anticipated soon, considering that reports last week indicated Maldini's reluctance to accept the role.

As Maldini weighed his options, Conte and Mancini continued to be the top choices for the head coaching role, with Conte reportedly being supported by Serie A clubs. Conte had previously stated his expectation for a salary in the region of €4 million per season, equating to his prior earnings as Italy's national coach, while Mancini would be amenable to a salary of approximately €2.5 million per season.
