Jacob Misiorowski sets Brewers strikeout record not seen since 1920

Jacob Misiorowski set a Brewers franchise record for strikeouts during a game played on Sunday, July 26, 2026. In a standout performance at American Family Field, Misiorowski struck out the first seven Colorado Rockies hitters he faced, achieving 12 strikeouts among the first 13 batters. This remarkable achievement of seven consecutive strikeouts is a new Brewers record and just two shy of the MLB record, which was last accomplished by Pablo López in 2021.

Moreover, Misiorowski became the first pitcher since 1920 to record 11 strikeouts while allowing no hits through four innings. The Rockies did not manage to place a runner on base until Cole Carrigg hit a solo home run with two outs in the fifth inning. Misiorowski ultimately finished the game allowing only one run in five innings and recording 12 strikeouts in total.

Despite his commanding performance, Misiorowski was taken out after throwing only 83 pitches as the Brewers monitored his workload for the remainder of the season. Having pitched 120 innings so far, he was approaching his career-high of 141 ⅔ innings set in the previous year, with August and September still on the schedule and hopes for a prolonged postseason run in October.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy commented on the discussions surrounding Misiorowski's workload prior to his last start, stating, "It’s a big discussion. It’s a big topic... There’s been all sorts of concern, planning, discussion... about biomechanics, strength testing, all of that. Thus, the reason for the layoff after the All-Star Game. Now, how do we ramp it back up?"

The limitations on Misiorowski's innings might influence his candidacy for the National League Cy Young award, which is a secondary concern for the Brewers. Currently, the team holds the second-best record in baseball, just behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, and is in a favorable position for capturing the franchise's first World Series title. Misiorowski's impressive outing left him with a 1.58 ERA across 20 starts and 120 innings, with no other qualified pitcher achieving a sub-2.00 ERA. He leads MLB with 185 strikeouts, 18 more than the next closest player, and boasts an exceptional 40.6% strikeout rate, the highest in the league.
