Nwabali returns to Chippa United five months after exit

Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, returned to South African club Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season on July 12, 2026. The 30-year-old rejoined Chippa United after a seven-month hiatus from competitive football, a period that impacted his international career and led to his exclusion from Nigeria's senior national team.

Chippa United announced Nwabali's return on Sunday via their official social media accounts, expressing happiness at his comeback to the Eastern Cape. The club stated: "Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome @nwabali32 back to the Chilli Boys." The club further remarked, "After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club."

Nwabali had established himself as one of Nigeria's leading goalkeepers following his commendable performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a crucial role in guiding the Super Eagles to the final. However, his extended absence from club football in recent months resulted in a loss of playing time, ultimately affecting his position within the national team.

His return to Chippa United provides the experienced goalkeeper with a chance to rejuvenate his career through consistent first-team play as he aims to regain his spot in both the club and the Super Eagles ahead of forthcoming international tournaments.
